Sony Ericsson LiveView - A Remote Control For Your Smartphone

With smartphones already being pretty portable you may question the need for Sony Ericsson’s new LiveView device, but here at Compare and Recycle we’re at least glad to see that they’re trying something new.

LiveView is basically a tiny device with a 1.3″ OLED screen which can connect to your Android smartphone via Bluetooth. The device has a variety of uses including reading messages, locating your mobile, controlling music playback and displaying notifications. We’re sure that over time more and more uses will become apparent for the device but right now it doesn’t seem especially useful, especially since it relies on your phone not being too far away to actually do anything.

The most confusing aspect of the announcement of LiveView is that to use it your Android device needs to be running version 2 or above, something which Sony Ericsson’s own Android handsets such as the Xperia X10 currently don’t do. Still, there’s plenty of time to release an update for handsets such as the X10 before LiveView is released towards the end of the year.

LiveView is certainly an interesting idea and one that might just catch on, but only time will tell if Sony Ericsson really have come up with a must-have mobile gadget.
