Gmail Now Offering Free Phone Calls

Free Phone Calls from Gmail

Google are now offering phone calls via Gmail for UK users. It appears that even for international users calls to the US and Canada are completely free while calls to other countries seem to offer very reasonable rates.

While Skype currently dominate the VoIP market Google could offer some real competition, especially since their service is offered right from users Gmail accounts. If Google decide to take the service across to the mobile market it could mark the end of standard voice calls and the beginning of mobile contracts being based entirely on data usage.
